Project Two: Annotated Bibliography (4-5 pages)

100 points total

  • Rough draft workshop: 10 October 2012 (bring TWO copies of paper and POST rough draft to wiki).
  • Conferences: 12 & 15 October 2012.
  • Final draft: 19 October 2012.   

The next step in exploring discourse communities will be to gain a better understanding of the scholarly work being done in your field. For Project Two, students will create an annotated bibliography for their proposed research question and add a historical overview of a related topic.

 

Project Two Steps:

  1. List of 15-20 sources (scholarly or professional sources) for annotated bibliography. Due 1 October 2012.
    1. Sources should be published between 1980 and the present (2012). Bibliography MUST include 1-2 sources from the 1980s-1990s and 3-5 sources from 2010-2012.  Worth 5 pts.
  2. Revised research question. Due 8 October 2012. 5 pts.
  3. Rough draft of Project Two for Rough Draft Workship. Due 10 October 2012.
    1. Rough draft MUST include historical overview of topic related to research question.

  4. Final draft of Project Two due to WIKI page AND SafeAssign (on BB). Due 19 October 2012.
    1. For the final draft of Project Two, students should compile a portfolio of all the assignments listed above.
    2. The final annotated bibliography and topic history should build on research question developed in Project One
      1. Each annotation should be 1 - 2 paragraphs.
      2. Annotations should include SUMMARY and ASSESSMENT.
      3. Annotated bib should be SINGLE spaced.
      4. Historical overview should be DOUBLE spaced (2 pages).
      5. Historical overview of the scholarship should reflect on the EVOLUTION of the topic (in scholarship/scholarly literature).
      6. Historical overview should be at least TWO pages (and no more than three pages).
      7. Historical overview should be written in standard paragraph form and it should utilize the conventions of STUDENT'S SPECIFIC CITATION AND RESEARCH FORMAT (i.e. MLA, APA, AMA...).   
      8. POINTS: 
        1. Annotated Bib with assessment and summary - 45 pts.
        2. Historical overview - 45 pts.
